On July 26th, 2018, the Italian Competition Authority accepted the commitments proposed by TravelJigsaw Limited, which operates through the commercial trademark “Rentalcars” and the related website http://www.rentalcars.com. Rentalcars is one of the largest online short-term car rental agencies, and makes more than 4 million rentals a year around the world (in over 46,000 locations) More specifically, Rentalcars compares the different car rental offers made by the various companies operating in the market and puts them forward to the consumer for subsequent purchase.
The commitments proposed by Rentalcars, now made binding by ICA, will allow consumers subscribing the insurance coverage called "Full Protection" to fully understand the actual identity of their contractual counterpart (an insurance company), and also to clearly appreciate the boundaries of the coverage offered." Consumers will thus be able to make an informed decision when buying the “Full Protection” insurance coverage, as an alternative to the ancillary products offered by car hire companies at pick up, to limit customers’ liability for theft or damages to the vehicles.
Rentalcars also committed to always indicating the currently hidden name of the car hire company offering specific special rates (marked by the indications "SuperSecret Offers - reserved to subscribers - Sign in to get further discounts on this car with the Best Price" and "Rentalcars.com - recommended "). In addition, Rentalcars will ensure that messages regarding the limited availability of a vehicle and the high demand in a specific town or date are linked to the data regarding bookings made on the company’s website, in order to overcome additional difficulties encountered by customers during the purchasing process on Rentalcars’ website.
The commitments accepted by the Italian Competition Authority will also be applied to the around 40 language versions of the website and will be implemented within a maximum of 3 months.
