Contrary to the claims made in an article published in today's Financial Times, the Italian Competition Authority has not requested the European Commission to investigate the invitations to tender published in the EU countries for the award of UMTS licences, and neither has it made any statements to this effect either to the Financial Times or to any other newspaper. If its investigations reveal any facts that fall within the jurisdiction of the European Commission the relevant information will be submitted to the Commission through the normal channels.
