Examination of the ceiling on exclusive television broadcasting rights of Serie A football matches in 2000-2001
At its meeting on 13 July, the Competition Authority resolved to open a section 2 investigation to ascertain whether the 60 percent ceiling on exclusive encrypted television broadcasting rights of Serie A football championship games for the 2000-2001 season had been exceeded. Section 2 of the Competition Act permits the Authority to grant an exception to the 60 percent ceiling or to set other ceilings depending upon the overall ownership of sports broadcasting rights in order to guarantee genuine competition on the market.
