PRESS RELEASE
Investigation of the Veneto professional associations of engineers and architects

At its meeting on 9 January 2001, the Competition Authority decided to open an investigation into the Regional Federation of the Professional Associations of Architects of Engineers of the Veneto Region and the Padua and Treviso Provincial Associations of Engineers and Architects, and the National Council of Architects, in order to ascertain whether they had adopted measures designed to restrict competition.
The investigation relates to a resolution adopted on 28 April 1995 by the Regional Federations of the Professional Associations of Engineers and Architects of the Veneto Region instructing the membership not to charge fees lower than the minimum levels stipulated in the resolution of the Veneto Regional Board ('Giunta') 4380 of 30 July 1991.
It will also investigate the adoption and dissemination by the Padua and Treviso Provincial Professional Associations of Engineers and Architects of a resolution instructing the members not to take part in any tenders for which the professional fees are below the levels set out in the regional resolution.
Lastly, the Authority will investigate the documents by which the National Council of Architects adopted the instructions issued at the provincial level by the Padua and Treviso Professional Associations, and circulated them to all the Councils of Architects of Engineers throughout Italy.

The investigation will be completed by 31 December 2001.
