ANTITRUST AUTHORITY TO INVESTIGATE BPU-BANCA LOMBARDA MERGER
The Italian Competition Authority, at its meeting on 6 February 2007, decided to open an investigation into the merger of Banca Lombarda e Piemontese and BPU (Banche Popolari Unite).
The inquiry, which will last no longer than 45 days, aims to determine whether the operation will lead to market distortions in a number of provincial marketplaces in the areas of deposit-taking, lending, sale of investment funds, wealth management and life insurance policies.
