ANTITRUST AUTHORITY NOT PREPARING REPORT ON PETROL PRICES
With regard to a number of news agency reports, the Press Office of the Italian Competition Authority advises that the review announced by its Chairman, Antonio Catricalà, which is still being written, will not be on the subject of petrol prices. It will be a broad-ranging report covering the state of liberalization and the impact of regulation on the economy of the country. One chapter of the document will deal with the issues of fuel storage and distribution, along the lines of what was already stated by the Authority in December 2007.
The monitoring of the commitments made by the oil companies was part and parcel of the ruling whereby the Authority accepted those commitments and rendered them binding.
