BANKS: ANTITRUST AUTHORITY OPENS PROCEEDINGS AGAINST FOUR BANKS OVER METHOD OF APPLYING THE MAXIMUM OVERDRAFT COMMISSION


Proceedings launched on 4 July against BNL, Intesa San Paolo, MPS and Unicredit Banca di Roma under assigned responsibilities regarding unfair commercial practices.


On 4 July last, the Italian Competition Authority opened four separate proceedings against BNL, Intesa San Paolo, MPS and Unicredit Banca di Roma to check on their methods for charging customers the maximum overdraft commission. The aim of the proceedings is to determine whether customers were informed in a clear and exhaustive manner as to the nature of the maximum overdraft commission and the method used for calculating it. The investigations are based on the responsibilities regarding unfair commercial practices assigned to the Authority by the Consumer Code.
