Antitrust: a one million Euro fine against Samsung Italia
for “misleading information”
on the memory of smartphones e tablets

A fine of one million against Samsung Italia, for unfair commercial practice: It has been inflicted by the Competition and Market Guarantor Authority, thereby censuring the methods by which, up to the current year, one of the main characteristics of smartphones and tablets have been presented to the public: we are dealing in particular with the information provided on the issue of the “ROM” memory of smartphones and tablets, inasmuch as the actual capacity available to consumers was found to be substantially less then the one indicated by the company.

The Antitrust has judged this practice, in terms of the Consumer Code, to be “in conflict with due professional diligence, through the dissemination of misleading information and the omission of significant information, thereby substantially distorting the economic behaviour of the average consumer”. The selfsame Authority has accordingly prohibited its dissemination or continuation, and ordered that Samsung Italia should notify within 60 days the initiatives it had embarked upon in compliance with the warning.
