Italian Competition Agency launched an ex officio investigation into Volkswagen AG and its distribution network in Italy.

Following several complaints filed by consumer associations, the Italian Competition Agency launched an ex officio investigation into Volkswagen AG and its distribution network in Italy.

The undertakings concerned could have infringed the unfair commercial practices legislation, by marketing cars and commercial vehicles whose quality and emission standards might prove lower than declared by the producer.

In particular, consumer choice might have been distorted by the Volkswagen group’s claims concerning the class of emission standards in both its advertising campaigns and the brochures distributed by dealers.

The alleged unfair commercial practice might concern several car models marketed by the Volkswagen group under the brands Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Skoda.
