A NEW MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE ANTITRUST AUTHORITY AND THE FINANCE POLICE TO STRENGTHEN COLLABORATION.

On 19 February 2015, at the General Command of the Finance Police, the General Commander of the Corps, Gen. C.A. Saverio Capolupo, and the President of the Italian Competition Authority, Prof Giovanni Pitruzzella, have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate for the protection of competition, the market and the consumer.

The agreement, which renews a line of partnership already in operation for several years, embraces new ideas of intervention, in line with broader powers vested in the Authority in recent years, with particular regard to the sector of unfair commercial practices, the legality of the rating and the control on trade in agricultural and agro-food products.

In the context of a general strengthening of operational synergies between the Corps and the Antitrust Authority, the agreement also regulates the organisational profiles for didactic activities in favour of the staff of the two institutions involved.

During the ceremony, the General Command reiterated the importance of the protection of economic freedom and the safeguarding of the rights of consumers taken to support the development and growth of the country, ensuring the full support of the Finance Police in the performance of the functions assigned to the Authority.

At the end of the meeting, President Pitruzzella stressed “the importance and the effectiveness of this collaboration, the service and the defence of the citizen as a consumer”, renewing his appreciation to the Finance Police that operate alongside the Authority.
