FOUR INVESTIGATIONS OPENED ON ACEA, EDISON, ENEL AND ENI ON THE ISSUE OF INVOICES: INSPECTIONS IN ROME AND MILAN

The Antitrust Authority, presided by Giovanni Pitruzzella, has launched four preliminary proceedings against the limited companies Acea Energia, Edison Energia, Enel Energia, Enel Servizio Elettrico and Eni.

Faced with numerous claims and reports, received from various consumer groups, the investigation is meant to ascertain any possible violations of the Consumer Code with regards to various actions of the operators: billing based on alleged consumption; failure to consider own readings of metres; billing adjustments and payments of significant amounts, even after long-term adjustments; failure to register payments made with the consequent formal notice given to the clients until the posting is made; and the non-repayment of debts accrued by consumers.

As part of these investigations, Antitrust officials carried out inspections at the premises of the companies involved in the proceedings in Rome, Milan and San Donato Milanese, with the help of the Special Antitrust Unit within the Financial Police (Guardia di Finanza).
