First Antitrust Award for journalists, associations and students


PRESS RELEASE


To promote the development of the culture of competition and consumer rights and for the first time in its history, the Italian Competition Authority (“ICA”) instituted the annual Antitrust Award. Instructions for participation are available on www.agcm.it. Participation in the award competition is open people from the following five categories: 1) upper secondary school students; 2) university students; 3) journalists; 4) consumer associations; 5) business associations. Below are the various award types and the audiences to which they are addressed.

Upper secondary school students
The ICA will award the best individual or collective project aimed at promoting the development of the culture of competition and consumer rights; the project must have been completed during the current year or immediately prior to the announcement of the Award competition.
The project may be submitted in written form or by means of a multimedia file.
The first-place winner will be granted an official recognition by the ICA together with a school-work alternation opportunity.

University students
The ICA will award the best dissertation on themes related to its activities. The dissertation must have been discussed during the academic year in progress or immediately prior to the announcement of the Award competition.
The first-place winner will be granted an official recognition by the ICA together with the opportunity to carry out an internship at the headquarters of the Italian Competition Authority and participate in the “Trento Summer School on Advanced EU Competition Law and Economics” (Town of Moena).

Journalists
In this case, the ICA will award the journalistic report, produced in any form (press, news flash, TV, radio, web), deemed most suitable to promote the development of the culture of competition and consumer rights; the report must have been written during the current year or immediately prior to the announcement of the Award competition.
Content may be packaged using any communication tool.
The first-place winner will be granted an official recognition by the Italian Competition Authority.

Consumer associations
The ICA has always valued the role of consumer associations. To this end, it will award the association which most distinguished itself in the dissemination of competition values or protection of consumer rights during the current year or immediately prior to the announcement of the Award competition.

Business associations
The ICA will award the association which most distinguished itself in the dissemination of competition values or protection of consumer rights during the current year or immediately prior to the announcement of the Award competition.
The first-place winner will be granted an official recognition by the Italian Competition Authority.

Application for participation
The application form must be completed and sent in the manner indicated in the announcement published on the www.agcm.it website, while all the entries of the various categories, which will be examined by an ICA appointed expert commission, must be emailed to premioantitrust@agcm.it by 31 December 2017.

Announcing the decisions and award ceremony
The selection results will be announced by a special notice published on the Italian Competition Authority's official website, while an official ceremony will be organised at its premises to award the winners.
