Roberto Rustichelli takes office as President of the Italian Competition Authority

Roberto Rustichelli, an ordinary magistrate appointed as President of the Italian Competition Authority by the president of the Senate, Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, and by the president of the Chamber, Roberto Fico on 20th December, having received authorisation from the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) for off-role placement on 17 April 2019, took office as President of the Competition Authority today.

 "I will honour the assignment entrusted to me with the same values of independence, impartiality and independence that have inspired me in my many years of work in the judiciary," Rustichelli stated.

"I will continue to consider the Institutions as a flagship for my professional and personal life, which now sees me in a new role for which I feel a great responsibility - he concluded - to guarantee the independence of the Authority, as well as to protect the interests of citizens and companies”.

Roberto Rustichelli, born in 1961 in Ravenna, has degrees in Law and in Economics and Management Sciences. At the time of his appointment he was Chairman of the B Board of the Naples Business Court with jurisdiction, inter alia, over the claims for violation of the antitrust law for the whole Southern Italy, as well as President of the Chamber of the Provincial Tax Commission of Naples. He served as Deputy Head of Cabinet of the Minister of Productive Activities and was a Legal Advisor to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in various governments. From 2009 to 2013 he was also a Member of the National Committee for Community Fraud Prevention.
