The Authority has sent a request for information to Trenitalia and NTV regarding their offer about the connections and the increase in ticket prices recorded between 15 December 2020 and 15 January 2021.

Yesterday the Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato sent a request for information to the main railway companies (Trenitalia and NTV) in relation to their offer about the connections on the main routes served and to the significant increase in ticket prices recorded on some days in the period 15 December 2020 -15 January 2021. In particular, the Authority noted an increase in the prices on the days before and after the travel blocking measures provided for by the Prime Ministerial Decree of 3 December, which involve the period from 21 December 2020 to 6 January 2021.

Within three days Trenitalia and NTV will have to communicate the criteria used to determine the number of connections and the places available on the main national routes, in order to cope with the expectable increase in demand in the period in question, as well as the criteria upon which prices are determined, with particular reference to the deviation from the base tariff normally applied for each route.
