Thanks to the Authority's decision, NTV will be able to market Trenitalia's regional and Intercity service tickets in combination with its high-speed services. This possibility will also be extended to regional connections operated by Trenitalia's investee companies.

The Italian Competition Authority has accepted the commitments presented by Trenitalia following the initiation of an investigation into the alleged abuse of a dominant position by the company in the markets for regional and medium-long-distance public passenger rail transport services on the conventional network.

According to the Authority, in fact, Trenitalia would have leveraged the exclusive service contracts stipulated with the competent bodies to extend and preserve its market power also in high-speed (HS) passenger transport services, where it competes with Italo - Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori.

Prior to the proceedings, only Trenitalia was able to offer in an integrated manner, through a unified sales interface, HS transport services with the transport services it operates as a monopoly (regional and Intercity) and, therefore, had the benefit of a competitive advantage that could not be replicated by its competitor, which had repeatedly asked Trenitalia to allow it to do likewise. However, no effective and satisfactory resolution of the problem had been achieved.

Thanks to the commitment proposals of Trenitalia accepted by the Authority, NTV will therefore be able to market Trenitalia's regional and Intercity service tickets in combination with its own HS services, also concerning the regional connections operated by Trenitalia's investee companies (Trenitalia TPER and Trenord, respectively active in Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy). Additional facilities have also been provided for users using combined transport services, consisting of the announcement of HS connections operated by NTV via onboard monitors and loudspeakers on regional and Intercity service trains.
