Sports broadcasting rights



Effective oversight of the marketing and sale of sports broadcasting rights is essential to safeguarding competition in this market. In this context, the Authority reviews how audiovisual rights for sporting competitions are sold to ensure a level playing field among all participants.

The legal framework is set out in Legislative Decree 9/2008, which governs the ownership and commercialisation of sports broadcasting rights and the distribution of related revenues.

We review the guidelines established by organisers of sporting competitions for the sale of audiovisual rights, and assess the criteria used to create the rights packages to ensure that the award procedures promote fair, transparent and non-discriminatory treatment for all bidders.
